The sculptor Hans Uhlmann (1900 – 1975) is one of the defining figures of art in Germany after 1945 and his metal sculptures are important landmarks in the cityscape of Berlin. At the same time, he created an enormous body of drawings, which only partly served to prepare his sculptural works. From 1954 on he turned more and more to abstraction. This drawing from 1957 is from a small group of works in which he inserted colored forms into a black framework.
